Strangers No More - Portrait of Mr. Chiu

My Favorite Clicks – Episode 1

In this first episode of a series I’ve given the working title “My Favorite Clicks“, I go back over a decade to when I began my journey as a working professional in Taiwan. While working with a documentary filmmaker I was tasked with making still photos of an interview he was shooting for a Taipei hospital with a recent open heart surgery patient, Mr. Chiu.

I did my job documenting the documentation, so to speak. Meanwhile, as I was engaged in an ongoing Stranger Portraits project, I asked if I could have a moment for a few portraits of Mr. Chiu, with unexpected results that would help lead to a gallery exhibition of my work a year later.

In fact, the poster design for the materials advertising the exhibition at the Lomography Gallery in Taipei featured one of these images. I share the story behind the pictures – and of course the images – in the gallery below and the linked video.

Being prepared for anything, ready to work quickly, and to ask for something helped bring these images to fruition.
